Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan is an exciting and funny fantasy book that mixes modern life with Greek mythology. The story follows a 12-year-old boy named Percy Jackson who always seems to get into trouble at school and never feels like he fits in. Strange things keep happening around him, and he struggles with dyslexia and ADHD, which makes school even harder for him.

Percy’s life completely changes when he discovers that he is actually a demigod, which means he is half human and half Greek god. He finds out that his father is Poseidon, the god of the sea. After learning the truth, Percy goes to Camp Half-Blood, a special camp where children of the Greek gods go to train and learn how to survive in a world full of monsters and danger.

Soon after Percy arrives at the camp, he is given an important and dangerous quest. Zeus’s powerful lightning bolt has been stolen, and Percy is accused of taking it. If the bolt is not returned soon, a huge war between the gods could start. Percy sets off on a journey across America to find the real thief and return the lightning bolt before it is too late.

Percy is not alone on his quest. He is joined by his two friends, Annabeth and Grover. Annabeth is very smart and brave, and she is the daughter of Athena, the goddess of wisdom. Grover is a satyr whose job is to protect demigods like Percy. Together they travel through many places and face lots of challenges, including fighting monsters like Medusa and escaping dangerous traps.

One of the best things about this book is how Rick Riordan brings Greek mythology into the modern world. Ancient gods and monsters appear in places like cities, highways, and even casinos. This makes the story feel creative and fun, while also teaching readers about Greek myths in an interesting way.

The characters in the story are also very enjoyable. Percy is a great main character because he is brave but also funny and sometimes unsure of himself, which makes him feel realistic. Annabeth is clever and determined, and Grover is loyal and caring. Their friendship makes the story even better because they help each other during difficult moments.

The book is full of action, mystery, and humour, which makes it very entertaining to read. There are many exciting moments where Percy and his friends have to think quickly and work together to survive. The story also shows important themes such as friendship, courage, loyalty, and believing in yourself even when things seem impossible.

Overall, Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief is a fantastic book that is exciting, funny, and full of adventure. I really enjoyed reading it because it kept me interested the whole time and made me want to know what would happen next. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes fantasy, mythology, and adventure stories.

I would give this book 5 out of 5 stars because it is fun, exciting, and a great start to the Percy Jackson series.
